OITAVOS, Portugal – InGo’s CEO, Michael Barnett, served on a panel discussing the future of the events and exhibitions industry at TF Connect’s 2013 Global Events Summit. A highlight of the discussion was technologically empowering audiences to grow events.
Barnett started by pointing out that the true untapped potential for massive industry growth already exists in the existing audience, and that the “trick” will be to empowering them to grow events using social technologies.
Mr. Rusbridge pointed out that a Trade Show must be responsive to their audience; recently his company, Reed Exhibitions, has expanded the one-on-one portion of one of their events due to popular demand. The methods by which Trade Show companies can receive feedback from their attendees and exhibitors are maturing, and experiential data is now available in real time for companies that have developed smart strategies to capture this data.
Mr. Rankine made a similar point in stating that this value will only be unlocked with high-speed internet connectivity throughout the Trade Show venue. Now, more than ever before, limited bandwidth at a venue bottlenecks the reach and impressions of Events and Trade Shows. Mobile internet access and social media are revolutionizing the industry by empowering individuals to share their thoughts and engage with large companies in ways that were never before possible.
The panel was comprised of five industry leaders, including Mike Rusbridge, Chairman & CEO, Reed Exhibitions; Kim Myhre, Former CEO of George P Johnson, Europe; David Chalmers, Founding Director at EventTouch; and Denzil Rankine, Executive Chairman, AMR. More information and multimedia from the 2013 Global Event Summit is available at www.globaleventsummit.com. The general consensus of the panel was that the Events industry is rapidly evolving, Trade Show companies must find ways to rapidly respond to customer demands, and that strategic partnerships with data companies are the key to mobilizing audience and exhibitor opinions towards making better events.
